Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR)
Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) is a humane and effective method of managing stray and feral cat populations. Through this process, free-roaming cats are humanely trapped, sterilised by a qualified vet, and then returned to their original territory. This approach helps prevent the birth of new litters, reduces nuisance behaviours, and allows cats to live out their lives in better health and safety.
Under Articles 38 and 39 of the Animal Welfare Act 2023,
Local authorities are legally responsible for implementing and enforcing programmes to control and manage stray animals, including cats. TNR is widely recognised as a key component of these programmes.
Please contact your local authority in the first instance. They will refer you to their TNR partner. Alternatively, you can contact our sister organisation Catnip TNR.
TNR not only helps reduce the stray cat population over time, but also promotes a more compassionate and sustainable solution to a long-standing issue.
