What does the contract say?

Adoption Terms & Conditions Cats

1. Care and Welfare of the Animal

The Adopter agrees:

  • Not to rehome, sell, or give away the cat within six (6) months from the date of this contract without prior written consent from PAWS-PATAS

  • Not to mistreat the cat, either physically or psychologically

  • Not to abandon or confine the cat in inappropriate conditions, such as leaving it outdoors without safe shelter or keeping it caged for extended periods

  • To provide a safe, secure indoor environment, or, where applicable, a safe outdoor space (e.g., enclosed garden or secure catio)

  • To ensure the cat has constant access to clean, fresh water, daily nutritious food, and timely veterinary care, including both routine and emergency treatment as needed

  • To use monthly anti-parasite preventative treatments, as recommended by PAWS-PATAS

  • To ensure the cat is never subjected to declawing, cosmetic surgery, or any unnecessary procedures

2. Companionship and Lifetime Commitment

The Adopter further agrees:

  • To keep the cat as a companion animal for the duration of its life

  • Not to use the cat for breeding, commercial purposes, experimentation, or research of any kind

  • To provide appropriate food, water, litter, bedding, veterinary care, and affectionate companionship throughout the cat’s life

  • Never to leave the cat unattended in a vehicle, regardless of the weather or duration

3. Adjustment and Responsibility

The Adopter acknowledges:

  • That the behaviour, health, and temperament of the cat cannot be guaranteed by PAWS-PATAS

  • That rescue animals may have experienced prior stress, abuse, or neglect, and may require a transition period of approximately 30–60 days to adjust to their new home and routine

  • That the Adopter assumes full responsibility for the cat’s care, behaviour, and any risk or liability associated with ownership

4. Inspection and Enforcement

  • PAWS-PATAS reserves the right to follow up on the cat’s wellbeing, which may include a home visit or check-in, with reasonable notice

  • If, in the sole judgment of PAWS-PATAS, the terms of this agreement are not being met, or if abuse or neglect is suspected, PAWS-PATAS reserves the right to remove the cat and carry out an investigation

  • Legal action may be pursued if the findings of such investigation justify it

5. Release of Liability

The Adopter hereby releases and waives any present or future claims, demands, damages, actions, or causes of action against PAWS-PATAS and its representatives or volunteers, arising from or related to:

  • The adoption or care of the cat

  • Any injury or damage caused by the cat to any person, animal, or property

6. Adoption Fees

  • PAWS-PATAS reserves the right to refuse adoption to any individual or household, for any reason

  • Adoption fees are typically non-refundable, unless the adoption is cancelled by PAWS-PATAS before it is finalised

What is the process?

Local adoptions
1. Complete the adoption form

Perhaps you’ve already spotted a cat you love on our website or social media—or maybe you’re just starting your search. Either way, come visit us and meet all our lovely cats in person! We have a beautiful “Garden” area where you’re welcome to spend time getting to know them. With so many gorgeous cats, each with their own unique personality, you may want to visit more than once before making your decision.

2. Choose your cat and complete the adoption contract

Once you’ve chosen the cat you’d like to adopt, scroll down to complete the Cat Adoption Form. If you’re not ready just yet, you can return later and find the form under the “Forms” section in the menu. Be sure to include the name of the cat you’d like to adopt.

3. Adoption fees

For details about adoption costs, please visit the Adoption fees section under the Adopt menu above.

4. Home check

After we receive your completed form, one of our volunteers will contact you to arrange a home check. If you’re not local, this can be done via WhatsApp video call.

5. Collect your cat

Coordinate with the Cattery Manager to arrange collection of your new feline friend.

At the time of collection, you’ll be asked to sign the official RAIA microchip transfer form, which registers the microchip in your name and completes the ownership process.

6. Please note:

Many of our cats come in as kittens and may not be fully vaccinated or neutered at the time of adoption. If this is the case, you will receive a voucher by email covering the remaining vaccinations, neutering, microchipping, and passport. You’ll just need to take your cat to our vet in Vera Playa with the voucher.
